What the hell is this all about then??

eejits is a collection of colourful critters and creatures drawn by me on a regular basis. A menagerie of misfortunate misfits if you will, put together in a gallery for all to see. They were starting to take up space in my house, so it was either I charged them rent or they went out in the world. Needless to say, they never paid me a penny......

Drawing eejits also helps me practise and learn new things, not only about drawing but about computer art as well. As I learn more and hopefully get better as time goes on, everyone gets to see the fruits of my labour. It's a win-win situation!

Why the name eejits??

eejits is a Scottish term for an idiot, fool or bampot and seeing as I am from (you guessed it....) Scotland, it's a term I use quite a lot. It seems that more often than not I'm surrounded by them (present company excluded, of course). When I first started drawing these creatures, the more I had drawn the more the collection looked like a bunch o' eejits. Hence the name has forever been attached to this project o' mine.

What do you use to create your drawings??

Paper, pencils and processors.

Paper gets drawn on with pencil. Pencil gets set on table. Paper gets crumpled up and thrown in the nearest bin. Repeat until a design for an eejit is good. Do not throw in bin.

That's my general drawing practice. But once I've completed that ritual, it's into the scanner with the bugger and then on to Paint Shop Pro X for a bit o' computer fiddling. All the 'inking' and colouring is done within PSP X. After a wee while the newly born eejit is ready to be displayed to the world. Conception to birth usually takes between 3 and 4 hours, depending on my mood and what I want to achieve. It may not sound like it, but I do actually enjoy the process (otherwise, what would be the point?).

Can I have a specific eejit on a T-Shirt/Mug/Mouse Pad just for me??

Of course you can!! Just send me an e-mail telling me what, we'll discuss what you want, prices and all the other stuff. Once that's done, I'll e-mail you a sample o' the design to make sure it what you want. If everything's okay then I'll go ahead and get it ordered from CafePress. Couldn't be simpler.

Oh and contact details can be found here.

What did you do before eejits??

Before eejits came 'The Mis-Adventures of FEEK', a monthly web comic that was mostly written and completely drawn by myself. It featured weird looking humanoid-like creatures, living in a land called Fekal, buggering about and trying to get a laugh outta the visitors. It ran for almost two years before I decided to call it a day and concentrate on something that didn't tax my brain as much. It's not that I didn't enjoy drawing FEEK and his pals, it was the writing aspect that was getting me down and struggling for ideas month in, month out killed it for me. That's why I decided to concentrate on the art and draw for the sake o' drawing....hence eejits was born.

Here's a sample strip to see what ya think.....

The Mis-Adventures of FEEK

May need to explain this a wee bit (if you haven't seen this before)....

As you may have gathered Feek is the green guy. Nooz is the blue guy with the wee tin hat. Now waaaaay back in TMoF history, Nooz found a rock, took him as a pet and named him Dwayne. That's what Nooz was like, completely thick. Anyway the above strip was another situation of Nooz's idiocy and Feek's contempt.

So, what are your ambitions for eejits??

All I really hope for, is that eejits becomes popular amongst people out there and that everyone enjoys what I do. I'd love to get a collection of eejits into print. That would be awesome! A collection of eejits either from here at the site or exclusive eejits that no-one had ever seen before. But to hold a hard copy of an eejits gallery would be a dream come true.

Another ambition for eejits, would to have one of my eejits turned into a toy. Either plush or vinyl. Wouldn't matter. Just as long as everyone loved it as much as I would. That's my dream.

Other than that, as long as people like what I do and tell me about it then I'm a happy man.

What else do you do with your life, other than drawing eejits??

Well, work life and family life take up most of my time. For my work, I'm an engineering draughtsman creating 3D models and 2D engineering drawings at a local nuclear plant, here in the north of Scotland. That takes up 40-60hrs a week o' my time, the rest is devoted to my wife Tracy and my two kids, Cameron, currently aged 6 and Rhiannon, aged 2 1/2.

I try and squeeze in drawing time whenever the kids are in bed, although lately Cameron has been enjoying drawing with me from time to time. eejits have become a part o' the Mackay family life!

Ooo, Ooo....I have more questions......??

No problem. I'll answer anything you want to know (within reason, of course)!. Details on how to contact me by e-mail can be found here.
